Baikal Airport in Buryatia to Become VEB.RF’s Socio-cultural Project Site

The new terminal of Baikal Airport in Ulan-Ude will become the site of SAINUU! TENGERI (Sky in Buryat), a socio-cultural project initiated and supported by VEB.RF, the Government of the Republic of Buryatia, and Baikal Airport. The project is carried out by the Kheb-Khab Creative Industries Centre with the participation of Novaport Holding.

Under the SAINUU! TENGERI project, all events are planned with the involvement of Buryatia residents. The project team intends to create art exhibitions and installation of art objects in airport lounges, graffiti in arrivals areas and organise workshops and open creative activities. A separate product will be the recording and presentation of audio stories from aviation veterans and local residents. The premiere of the project’s first events is scheduled for this December.

“The SAINUU! TENGERI project will help to make the airport a gateway to understanding Buryat culture, showing its diversity, strength, and hospitality. This is our strategic step towards creating a modern tourism brand,” said Aldar Dorzhiev, Minister of Tourism of Buryatia.

According to Baikal Airport General Director Dmitry Garmaev, after the new terminal was opened, over half a million passengers have been served by Baikal Airport since the beginning of 2025. “Passenger traffic is on the increase now. The socio-cultural project will allow visitors to Buryatia to feel a connection to our centuries-old culture from the very beginning. We are pleased to be part of this important VEB.RF project, which will also highlight the development of aviation in Buryatia and the people who made the skies endless for flights,” said Dmitry Garmaev.

“The socio-cultural project in Buryatia will be our pilot project to support VEB.RF’s investment in airport construction in Russian regions. Working with local creative industries and residents will make the new terminal not only an important transport hub, but also a place for meetings, cultural representation, and dialogue, reflecting the spirit and identity of Buryatia and Ulan-Ude,” emphasised Oleg Rakitov, Director and Head of Socio-cultural Programmes, VEB.RF.
