VEB.RF: New Trams Available to Passengers in Saratov in Near Future

VEB.RF has allocated 249.2 million roubles for the work completed by the contractor for No. 9 tram in Saratov.

“VEB.RF is a financial partner of the Saratov Region in working on one of the largest investment projects with a significant impact on the local community, namely the modernisation of urban electric transport infrastructure. VEB.RF has already allocated a total of over 925 million roubles to the project. The financing is intended as payment for the rehabilitation of tram routes. In the immediate future, the residents of Saratov will be able to use new, modern, comfortable, and safe No. 9 and No. 8 trams,” said Valery Snezhko, Executive Director, Business Services, VEB.RF.

The Saratov project budget is 17.3 billion roubles in total, with VEB.RF’s approved commitment of 10.8 billion roubles.

The Saratov project includes the rehabilitation of four tram routes with a total length of 67 kilometres. The work involves rehabilitating 11 traction substations and renewing a flyover to carry trams over a railway. In the Saratov metropolitan area, local residents and visitors will receive not only renewed infrastructure, but also new tram stops, lighting systems, landscaped areas and storm drains. All these undertakings are contained in the concession agreement.

The Saratov Region is on the list of participants in the comprehensive development programme for electric transport in nine pilot regions. The programme was initiated by the Russian Government in association with VEB.RF. Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Grigorenko was appointed to oversee the programme on behalf of the government. As instructed by the Russian Government, VEB.RF acts as the programme’s financier, project office and coordinator.
