Ufa’s Junction. Going the Same Way Project Launched by Local Creative Communities with Help from VEB.RF and SIBUR

Launched at the suggestion of VEB.RF and SIBUR and in association with the local government, Junction. Going the Same Way debuted in Ufa on 2 December. This is a large-scale socio-cultural project devised by the capital city’s creative team and residents. It was timed to coincide with the opening of one of the largest infrastructure facilities in the republic, namely the Ufa East Exit. The new exit on the M-5 Ural federal highway came into use in March 2024.

The project aims to let people see and hear how large infrastructure and business projects impact Ufa’s quality of life, cultural agenda and development, how city dwellers can improve their city. The official ceremony was attended by the municipality, VEB.RF, SIBUR, the city’s creative team and local residents.

The Junction. Going the Same Way project consists of several parts:

1. An audio guide for three unique routes gives a fresh perspective on the city and current changes in its infrastructure. The audio guide is based on the work completed by the city’s Going the Same Way research laboratory for residents.

2. The documentary The Road from Home gives insights into the everyday lives of the locals affected by the East Exit project.

3. A collection of musical compositions performed by Ufa musicians using the city’s sounds recorded and sent by city dwellers is the result of the With/Sound subproject.

4. An exhibition entitled “From the Cave” and staged by ZAMAN MUSEUM and local artists features their thoughts about mindful consumption, about human beliefs and values evolving in the course of history, about conscious consumerism and the importance of recycling and reusing waste.

5. An art object made as a collage from drawings by young residents of Ufa contains children’s words about their affection for their hometown. The collage also includes QR codes that help tourists and city dwellers to quickly plan a walking route and select any of the audio tours offered by the project.
