New Airport Terminal to Be Built in Murmansk with Support from VEB.RF and Sber

VEB.RF, Sberbank and Novaport have signed a syndicated loan agreement for the construction of a new domestic terminal of Murmansk Airport.

The project will use the Project Financing Factory mechanism. Its total value is 4.7 billion roubles.

Maxim Kolesnikov, First Deputy Minister of Economic Development: “On completion of the work, the new domestic terminal and the rehabilitated international terminal will allow Murmansk Airport to serve as many as 3 million passengers a year. The airport will facilitate regional economic growth, will make the region more attractive to tourists, and will improve the architectural features of the city. The project uses the Project Financing Factory mechanism. In recent years, PFF transactions have played a key role in the market for syndicated loans provided by a group of banks.”

Yuri Korsun, Deputy Chairman, VEB.RF: “With support from VEB.RF, 21 airports in major cities of this country have already been financed and are being financed. Infrastructure development, including the construction and modernisation of airport terminals, corresponds to the main investment areas of VEB.RF. Murmansk Airport is the air gateway to the Arctic. Passenger traffic has been on the increase since 2023, and the primary goal of the project is to enable the airport to serve 400 passengers per hour and provide a high level of traveller comfort and safety.”

Anatoly Popov, Deputy Chairman of the Executive Board, Sberbank: “In recent years, the Murmansk Region has become very popular with Russians. Tourists travel to the Arctic to see the northern lights and polar night, visit Teriberka and Murmansk, go skiing in the Khibiny Mountains, and go fishing in the north. Many Russians work here on a rotational basis in the mining and processing industries as well as marine harvesting. When the new, modern airport terminal opens, even more people will be able to fly to Murmansk in comfort. Sber is proud to participate in financing a project that is so important to the region and Russia because this contributes to the growth of domestic tourism and the development of this country.”

Architecturally styled to look like the Khibiny Mountains, the new terminal is due for completion in the first six months of 2025. Having a total area of 7,065 square meters, the terminal will be able to serve 400 passengers per hour. Two jet bridges will allow passengers to board and disembark without being exposed to bad weather.
