VEB.RF has supported the delivery of another five new one-section Lvionok trams to Volgograd. VEB.RF’s tranche amounted to RUB122.5m. In total, VEB.RF has already provided above RUB2.6bn for the project to modernise the Volgograd tram infrastructure. VEB.RF provides low-interest loans at a fixed rate (5.65% p.a.) for a term of 20 years.
Development of a public EV transport system in Russian cities is among VEB.RF’s top priorities. These projects considerably improve quality of life for local residents. Using only domestic technology and production will produce a high multiplying effect for several economic sectors.
Thus far, VEB.RF has supported the delivery of 17 trams to Volgograd. The new trams have a number of advantages, including higher speed and, as a consequence, reduced travel time, increased passenger comfort and reduced traffic noise.
The Lvionok trams constructed by Transport Systems have the total passenger capacity of 155 and the seated capacity of 34. These low-floor tram models are comfortable for people with limited mobility and passengers with pushchairs. The trams are also equipped with USB charging sockets and HVAC systems.
The project envisages modernising Volgograd’s high-speed tram ground line with a total length of 15 km (a single-track valuation); constructing a new section with a total length of 5 km (a single-track valuation); reconstructing two underground stations, 11 tracking substations and one tram depot; and purchasing 50 one-section Lvionok trams and 12 three-section Nevskiy trams. Volgograd’s tram system is Russia’s only metro tram system having both ground and underground sections.
The project is based on a concession contract totalling about RUB12bn. Comprehensive modernisation of electric rail transport is currently under way in Volgograd.
Volgograd is one of the country’s ten cities eligible for modernisation of urban electric vehicles with VEB.RF’s support as approved by the Russian Government. The programme is supervised by Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Grigorenko. VEB.RF is mandated by the Russian Government to act as a financier, as well as the programme’s project office and coordinator. The total programme value is RUB252bn.
