The new Ufa East Exit highway is opened in Bashkortostan. This is the first large-scale PPP project in the Republic of Bashkortostan. The total investment is over RUB40bn. The project is implemented with the participation of VEB.RF and VTB Bank.
Russian Deputy Prime Minister Marat Khusnullin and Head of the Republic of Bashkortostan Radiy Khabirov have taken part in the official road opening ceremony.
The Deputy Prime Minister has formally opened the new highway to traffic. The construction of the Ufa East Exit on the M-5 Ural federal highway started in 1992 but was suspended for a long period. Finally, the project was completed successfully due to support from the President and by joint efforts from the government and the region. The construction was financed under the Safe and High-Quality Roads programme and through private investment. The project is expected to have a significant socio-economic impact across the region and expand the town-planning capabilities of the Ufa agglomeration. The project will also make the region more attractive to investors and will contribute to boosting Russia’s foreign trade since Bashkortostan exports large volumes of goods,” Marat Khusnullin said.
“The Ufa East Exit has been the largest infrastructure project in Bashkortostan for several decades. The total project value exceeds RUB40bn. We implemented advanced engineering solutions for the project,” Radiy Khabirov said. “The new road should substantially reduce the burden on the existing Ufa street network and improve the comfort of local residents. In addition, the Ufa East Exit would bring further impetus to the residential construction in Ufa’s suburbs. So we will be able to tackle the challenge faced by our region to build more homes.”
VEB.RF Chairman Igor Shuvalov: “The Ufa East Exit shows how government support mechanisms implemented by VEB.RF make people’s lives more comfortable and help to solve transport issues. Each town dweller will benefit from these projects. The investment projects focusing on urban economic development is a priority for VEB.RF. Actually, 95% of the components used for the East Exit project were made in Russia, including all intellectual automated traffic management systems and fare collection systems (InfraWay and InfraPay), Russian software developed by specialised companies of VTB Infrastructure Holding.
The East Exit is the largest infrastructure project of Bashkortostan and the Volga Federal District implemented under a concession agreement entered into in 2017 between the Bashkortostan Government (concession grantor) and Bashkir Concession Company LLC (concessionaire), which is part of VTB Infrastructure Holding. No toll is charged until 1 April 2024. The East Exit includes a motorway tunnel of 1.2 km, a bridge crossing over the Ufa river of 2.7 km and a motorway of 10 km with an exit on the M-5 Ural federal highway.
