Developing IT and Tourism: VEB.RF to Help Kazan Implement Promising Projects

VEB.RF and Agency for Strategic Initiatives (ASI) conducted a joint business mission in Kazan to discuss with development institutions key ways of improving quality of life. VEB.RF finances the construction of new schools and large industrial and infrastructural facilities in the Republic of Tatarstan, and helps to enhance prestige of the IT sector.

“Any ongoing or planned projects in Tatarstan are bound to succeed. There are no unfinished projects, and all VEB.RF’s investments prove to be successful. All the projects, whether realised within BRICS or as part of our ordinary partnership activities, are always exciting. Here we have full mutual understanding and witness high responsibility for the fulfilment of obligations taken,” said VEB.RF Chairman Igor Shuvalov.

The business mission included pitch sessions to identify promising areas of regional development including the IT sector. Six Tatarstan’s IT projects are already operational and beneficial; another eight projects are under way. The Russian Fund for the Development of Information Technologies (part of the VEB.RF Group) has supported 14 IT projects in the region totalling about RUB1.5bn. One of the regional projects (Russia’s ATOM electric vehicle scheduled to roll off the assembly line in 2025) has evolved from a domestic idea to international level.

Another key area of Tatarstan’s development is tourism. VEB.RF’s subsidiary ProGorod has announced the development of the Big Volga tourist scheme. The project offers strategic development of the tourist sector of 13 Russian regions as a macro-area united around Great Russian River Volga, and contains proposals for tourist-oriented infrastructural development. The development of the tourist scheme will be launched in February 2024.

Aircraft industry and machine building are also among the priorities of Tatarstan’s development. The major industrial bases are the KAMAZ technological centre and the Kazan Helicopter Plant. Igor Shuvalov visited the two facilities and the testing site, as well as inspected the progress of the sixth phase of the Kama industrial park Master in Naberzhnye Chelny.

He also visited the Perspektiva multifunctional vocational school co-financed by VEB.RF. VEB.RF’s Chairman discussed the most topical issues of Russia’s economic development with senior pupils, students and young school and university teachers of the Republic of Tatarstan.

VEB.RF and ASI conduct a series of business missions in Russian regions aiming to reveal new growth points in regional economies and prepare the Strong Ideas for a New Time forum.
