Vnesheconombank and Ethereum Foundation have entered into a partnership agreement. The signing ceremony took place at the Russian national conference Blockchain: Russia’s New Oil. The document was signed by Vitalik Buterin, the founder of Ethereum Foundation, the main developer of the Ethereum platform, and Sergey Gorkov, Vnesheconombank’s Chairman.
The agreement establishes a long-term and effective partnership in the implementation of distributed ledger- and Ethereum-based projects and aims at creating an expert community and developing and launching joint educational programmes to train specialists on distributed ledgers and the Ethereum platform at Vnesheconombank Centre of Blockchain Competencies.
The main objectives of the Centre are to accumulate competencies and knowledge on innovation technologies, develop platforms for their application in governmental organisations, and conduct training and promotion. The Centre is the first of its kind in Russia and will mainly serve the needs of state-owned companies and government authorities. This makes Russia a prominent player in the global blockchain market.
The centre will be located in Moscow at the MISiS National University of Science and Technology (NUST MISiS). Its opening is scheduled for September 2017. Ethereum developers will work together with the Centre of Competences’ employees in a collaborative environment.
“We are bringing together all parties concerned and creating Russia’s first Centre of Competencies for state-owned companies and governmental authorities establishing an innovation ecosystem. The centre will unite the skills and expertise of Russian and foreign leading developers in breakthrough innovation sectors. We are delighted to supplement Vnesheconombank’s practice with competencies developed by Ethereum, the blockchain leader,” said Sergey Gorkov.
To research the blockchain application in public governance, a working group headed by First Vice Prime Minister of Russia Igor Shuvalov has been established. Specifically, within this working group, Vnesheconombank has been instructed to initiate the process and act as its moderator.
“The cooperation between Ethereum and Vnesheconombank offers a unique opportunity to conduct research and development in blockchain application for public administration and to speed up the adaptation of this technology for Russian government authorities,” said Vitalik Buterin.
