Million Dollar Idea TV show presented at Skolkovo Jazz Science Festival 2017

On 26 August 2017, VEB Innovations and the NTV channel presented its Million Dollar Idea TV show during the Skolkovo Jazz Science Festival 2017.


The presentation was led by Igor Butman, the headliner of the best jazz event of the year Skolkovo Jazz Science, Sergey Gorkov, Vnesheconombank’s Chairman, Alexandr Chernov, Vice President of the Skolkovo Foundation, and Alexey Zemskiy, NTV’s General Director. The project sponsored by VEB Innovations is intended for young entrepreneurs, start-up founders and innovators and is an opportunity for them to turn their brilliant ideas into reality. The main goal is to support Russian manufacturers who know how to commercialize their ideas in the high-tech industry and help them earn money by using their own knowledge and skills here in Russia.

There have been 500 applications submitted so far, and they will continue to be accepted until 31 August on the website.

“One of our main objectives is to support Russian high-tech industry and manufacturers. The TV show will be another step towards moulding our own Jobs and Zuckerbergs in Russia. And we will do our utmost to forge innovations our country can be proud of”, said Sergey Gorkov, Vnesheconombank’s Chairman and a mastermind behind the Million Dollar Idea TV show.

One of the show’s main partners is the Skolkovo Foundation, whose residents will also participate in the programme. Among the participants are also GetShopTV, ELEMENTAREE, PandaMoney, Una Wheel, FIBRUM, etc.

“I expect two things from the show: first, more young people will endeavour to make their dreams come true and their own start-up. Second, big city residents will be able to see with their own eyes why ELEMENTAREE personalized meals are better and cheaper than supermarket food,” says Olga Zonovieva, head of ELEMENTAREE meal delivery project.

“As the target customers of GetShopTV are TV viewers and given that the new technology will be embedded in TV set top boxes, we believe this is a good opportunity to tell our story. The story of how we came into this business, what drives us and who is behind the technology that will soon be used by tens of millions of people across the country. So when our clickable boards appear on TV screens, people will know how to use them and will stay loyal,” says Sharif Karmo, a co-founder of GetShopTV project.

“First and foremost, we are promoting a high quality of life for disabled people in wheelchairs and, of course, we are looking for investment to continue research and expand our business. We would also appreciate guidance from mentors who can show us our weak points and advise on which direction to go,” says Sergey Kostenevich, the founder of the UnaWheel project aimed at the adaptation of wheelchair users.

Over the course of the TV show’s numerous series, a jury of representatives from business, investment funds and development institutions will decide how successfully participants cope with the tasks. Several projects will be short-listed for final judging, three of which will be awarded prizes in the amount of RUB60m from Vnesheconombank and its partners for business development purposes. The show is scheduled to premiere in November 2017.

VEB Innovations intends to cooperate with its partners to include promising start-ups in business accelerator programmes and bring them to global markets.
