Russian engineers to launch a rotorcycle on 2 September at the Moscow Region Governor’s Road Racing Cup

Innovative technologies are tapping into the global motorsport market. On the first Saturday of September the Moscow Raceway in Volokolamsk Region is set to host one of the major sports events of the coming autumn – the Moscow Region Governor’s Road Racing Cup. The best Russian and European racers will meet face-to-face to chase for victory, and a unique rotorcycle HoverBike S3 will go airborne above the raceway.

The HoverBike S3 was developed by a team of Russian engineers. It is a hybrid of a quadcopter and a motorbike equipped with environmentally friendly electric engines.


The rotorcycle’s maximum load is 150 kg, and its flying altitude is currently 5 metres. In addition, its battery charge is sufficient for a 30-minute flight at a speed of up to 100 km/h.

The first public demonstration of the HoverBike will take place on 2 September at the Moscow Raceway.

The Yakhnich Motorsport LLC (the HoverSurf project) rotorcycle manufacturer and Vnesheconombank signed an agreement on cooperation in drone development, including the development of breakthrough technologies for designing and manufacturing passenger, cargo manned and unmanned aerial vehicles complete with state-of-the-art intelligent systems and equipment. The revamped VEB has shifted its primary focus to the support of priority development sectors where Russia can become a global leader.

The HoverSurf project applied to participate in the Million Dollar Idea TV show to be launched by Vnesheconombank in November 2017 on NTV. According to the project team, their goal is to inspire people by showing them the future has already arrived, in this case with the imminent mass adoption of personal aerial vehicles.

On Saturday, 2 September, apart from the unique rotorcycle presentation and three spectacular Governor’s Cup motor races, the crowd will witness a number of memorable events. The racing paddock will be transformed into an exhibition of futuristic technology, where young Russian scientists from the Skolkovo Innovation Centre will display their breakthrough achievements. The day-long program includes motorbike test drives, kids entertainment events, balance bikes and mini-moto races for young competitors. Additionally, there will be a mass participation charity race #RUNFORINNOVATIONS, track bike races for 28 km and 53 km, stuntriding and even RUSSIAN RACING DOLLS – a beauty contest among the Grid Girls teams of the Moscow Region Governor’s Cup.

Admission to the motordrome on Saturday, 2 September, is free.
