Chairman of Vnesheconombank Sergey Gorkov took part in negotiations organized as part of a meeting between the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin and the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi Al Nahyan during his visit to Moscow. The parties discussed the current status and prospects of the Russian-Emirati cooperation and joint steps for the further development of business and investment relations.

“We are taking proactive efforts to attract investors to the Russian economy from Middle East countries and to promote Russian exports to the countries of the region. The Bank is also considering the use of the Islamic finance mechanisms in Russia," noted Sergey Gorkov. According to the Chairman, “the expansion of geography of investor contacts, including our partners in the Middle East, plays an important role in light of the goal to diversify the sources of funding available to Vnesheconombank”.

Sergey Gorkov also discussed the development of trade and economic cooperation, including support of Russian exports to countries of the Middle East, namely United Arab Emirates (UAE) leaders, during his recent working visit to the UAE.

VEB’s head also held meetings with the major financial institutions of the UAE, including the National Bank of Abu Dhabi, Emirates NBD, and Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank. The parties discussed aspects of making transactions with Russian exporters, as well as attracting finance for projects realized by Vnesheconombank. The interest in joint financing of investment projects carried out in Russia was also demonstrated by the sovereign fund Abu Dhabi Investment Authority (ADIA).


At the meeting with the heads of the Central Bank of the UAE, Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC) and the Abu Dhabi Global Market, the parties considered opening a Vnesheconombank Group representative office in the UAE. The Emirati party reaffirmed its interest in the presence of VEB Group in the UAE.
