Vnesheconombank delivered the second aircraft – Boeing 747-400 formerly owned by Transaero Airlines – to Rossiya Airlines (Aeroflot Group) through VEB’s subsidiary, VEB-Leasing.
One of the largest in Rossiya’s fleet, the airliner will make long-haul flights to most in-demand destinations including Russia’s Far East and Trans-Baikal, as well as to popular national resorts. Following a new tradition of the company, the aircraft has been named after Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk. The tiger pattern has been chosen to raise the public awareness of the need to save the population of Amur tigers also known as Siberian, Manchurian, or Mandarin tigers. Today, the population of Amur tigers in Russia’s Far East is estimated at just 540 species.
In August, Russia’s President Vladimir Putin following the cabinet meeting on the Far East development instructed the Government together with Aeroflot, Sberbank, VTB, Rossiya Airlines and Vnesheconombank to ensure based on previous agreements that long-range aircraft are put into operation prior to 1 December 2016 to improve transport accessibility of the Russian constituent entities comprising the Far Eastern Federal District. To carry out the instruction, VEB-Leasing will deliver the remaining aircraft to Rossiya Airlines as early as by the end of September.
