Russian President Vladimir Putin appointed Vnesheconombank Chairman Sergei Gorkovas Russia's representative in BRICS Business Council for a period of three years from 2016 to 2018.

BRICS is an informal group of states comprisingBrazil, Russia,India, China and South Africa.The BRICS Business Council was established during the BRICS Summit held on March 2013 in Durban, South Africa. Under a decision of the heads of state it is comprised of five representatives from each country.

The Business Council’s objective is to identify problems and constraints that hinder the growth of economic, trade and investment ties between the BICS countries as well as make proposals and recommendations to address them.
